Dennis Black, Principal Consultant

PhD, B.Eng(Mining)(Hons), Grad. Dip. (Mine Ventilation), MAusIMM(CP), RPEQ, MSPE, MMAA

Dennis is an experienced mining engineer and manager. He has extensive technical, operations and project management experience in underground and open cut coal mines.

In addition to his Bachelor of Mining Engineering degree, Dennis has a doctoral degree (PhD) in Coal Seam Gas Management and Gas Drainage Improvement, as well as post graduate qualifications in Coal Mine Operations, Business Management, Mine Ventilation and Auditing. Adding to his expertise, Dennis also has training and experience in OH&S and Mines Rescue and holds statutory coal industry qualifications for Mine Manager, Undermanager, Deputy, and Ventilation Officer. Dennis is an Honorary Fellow at the University of Wollongong and has active research projects in the coal seam gas and outburst risk area, giving him leading edge knowledge in this field. His regular attendance at mine and project sites ensures he maintains his operational and industry currency.

With such a broad range of knowledge and experience, Dennis can provide a full spectrum of services from day-to-day technical and operational support (both on site and offsite) including locum/relief services for your operational, engineering/technical and management staff, through to providing detailed technical studies and investigations, project management and research services.

CoalGAS has a comprehensive understanding of the statutory requirements that impact mines. To ensure that your project or problem is handled with regulations in mind, Dennis has attained the following statutory qualifications:

  • Auditor of Mine Ventilation Arrangements – Licence No. MLA120523
    (NSW Coal Mine Health and Safety Regulation, 2006)
